"It was an extremely hard day and I am very pleased with the outcome of the stage.I was very close of being dropped going over the Arlbergpass and it did cost a lot of effort to follow the pace. After today's stage I am still in well-positioned in the GC,but I have my doubts about how far I can really take it when I have to dig deep like today”,said Fab Fab after the stage.
Tadej Valjavec is still the GC leader.Andy unfortunately lost one minute time for unknown reasons (perhaps he was simply tired after yesterday's stage),hope everything's ok with him. Frank Schleck was 7th and did a very good stage, just like Gustav Larsson and Chris-Anker Sorensen. The Dane rider was also member of a breakaway that took off in the first part of the stage. When these 4 riders were caught,Burghardt and Schroeder attacked but didn't manage to get good results.
On the final climb Rein Taamarae (a good rider with a nice surname) and Tony Martin gained few seconds on the leader group but were soon caught.
The stage actually wasn't as hard as it was supposed to be,perhaps tomorrow's one will be tougher .
Italian chronists today have been so amazing that they deserve to be mentioned. They realised that Andy wasn't in the main group during the last meters of the race. And then they gave their best when Chris-Anker Sorensen tried to attack on the last climb. You must know that here in Italy Chris-Anker Sorensen is confused with Nicki Sorensen in almost every race he does. But when he attacked today, one of the chronists started to scream:"Andy Schleck is attacking! Andy Schleck is attacking! Let's see if Valjavec goes to catch him!" But then the other chronists said: "That's not Andy Schleck,Schleck's wearing the sprinter jersey and this rider is wearing the usual Saxo Bank jersey...It is Frank Schleck.Frank Schleck is attacking!" First chronist: "Hey,wait a moment:it can't be Frank Schleck.Schleck's got the national champion jersey on and this rider..." Other chronist: "Oh I've got it! It is...It is...Chris-Sorensen! Yes,Chris-Anker Sorensen is attacking!". By the time they identified him,Chris had already been caught by the leader group and I was simply astonished.I mean,Chris-Anker Sorensen doesn't look like the Luxembourgian riders at all!!
Anyway,it must be said that these chronists aren't the usual ones,so they don't know the riders very well. And then, they didn't confuse the riders intentionally,so I think they must be forgiven for their mistake.

Chris anker sorensen doesn't look like the Schlecks at all! But the mistake is forgivable (the Dutch reporters always make mistakes like that and they don't correct them, or they correct them really late :S)
RispondiEliminaI think it's forgivable as well.At least it was pretty funny hearing those very worried chronists talk about the identity of the misteryous Saxo Bank rider ;)
