NEWS ABOUT THE TOUR DOWN UNDER AND THE GIRO:
First of all,I'd like to wish a Happy New Year to everybody. Then,I've got some news.
First: According to http://www.cyclingnews.com/, the Saxo-Bank team for the Tour Down Under (18-25 January) will be formed by Stuart O'Grady, Jens Voigt, Nicki Sørensen, Kasper Klostergaard, Matthew Goss, Frank Hoj and Anders Lund. The Team Manager will be Kim Andersen (for more information,go on the website and see the news of the 30th of December). The leader of the team will be O'Grady, that has already won the Tour Down Under twice in his career. Btw,does anybody know why Chris-Anker Sørensen will not run that race? Last October he was supposed to run Herald Sun Tour and he was very happy because he really wanted to go to Australia for the first time in his life, but then when Frank and Andy decided not to run the Tour of Lombardy he had to come here in Italy.Poor boy! Someone hopes to go to Australia for the first time in their life (and dreams about the sun,the snakes, the crocodiles, the wonderful cities, the bush and all this kind of things) and then finds themselves in Lombardy...For me,that would be quite desolating (maybe because I live in Lombardy all the year...Eh eh)
However,he and all the other Saxo-Bank riders that aren't taking part in the Tour Down Under will do a ten-days training camp in Mallorca.
Other News: A stage of the Tour 2010 may arrive in the city of Bergamo.Yuppi! (I know you don't care much about this news, but for me it's quite interesting...).
Giro News: Basso has said that the second TT of the Giro 2009 (that is 61 kms long) is the hardest that he's ever seen.Simoni and Cunego have decided to make a plan against Basso and Armstrong. Will it work? We'll discover it in the next episode (unfortunately we'll have to wait for some months)... =)

THE SLOWWORM AND MY SISTER:
3 days ago, reading the newspaper,I found out that Riccò’s going to become father.I don’t care about this-the problem is my sister. She hasn’t showed it,but I think it’s been quite a bad blow for her! She started supporting Riccò at this year Tour (fortunately I didn’t have to stand her for a long time....) and the scandalous thing is that in May 2007 she was Andy’s fan!! I don’t know what happened to her then. She first saw Andy in the Giro 2007 and when I told her that I liked him,she said that he was horrible. However, the first time she saw him without the helmet and without the glasses, she fell in love with him.I remember that she asked me: “Who’s that? What? He’s the guy you like?”,then she shut up and started staring at the tv with an astonished expression on her face. “What’s his name?...And where does he come from? Luxembourg? Oohh...”. “Do you like him?” “Ehm...Uhmm...well,let’s say he’s cute...”,she said.Unfortunately it was just an infatuation that last for a very short time (1 or 2 days...).Then the Giro ended and she soon started to make fun of him (and of Frank).I’ve always said that, during the distribution of the brains at the beginning of the world, she probably was in a loo...
Then during this year Tour she started to support the Cobra (or the Slowworm,as I call him) until she found out that he was doped. And 3 days ago, that other bad blow....Poor sister! If you’d kept on supporting Andy, this would not have happened.... =)

NB: I know you don't care much about this, but I've threatened my sister of talking 'bout her on the blog if she didn't stop to say to everybody that I like the Schleck brothers,so...The fact is that she tells this to everyone (my grandparents,my uncles,my aunts,my father's friends, the cyclist of her team...) and it's pretty embarassing when one of your grandfathers asks you: "Which one do you prefer? You can't decide? Well, poligamy is not allowed here in Italy, you better go to some Arabian places...",while the other usually calls Andy "the one with the big nose " ("òl Nasù",in bergamasque) or "the one that comes from...how it's called...Luxembourg?"

CIAO CIAO 2008,BENVENUTO 2009:

So,year 2008 is ending.A lot of things (good and bad) happened this year.Good things:
-Frank wore the yellow jersey at the Tour and won the National Championship. He also came 3rd in Liege-Bastogne-Liege and 2° in Amstel Gold Race. -Andy won the white jersey at the Tour, won the Curaçao Amstel Gold Race, arrived 4th in the Liege and ran a great Tour de France (except for Hautacam’s day....).
-Frank’s case was dropped by ALAD.
-I gave up studying physics.
-Obama was elected as new American president (and Bush will finally go away between a few days).
-The Slowworm...I mean, the Cobra (Riccò) didn’t win the Giro.
-There were the Olympics games (even if they didn't end well for poor Andy, they’re always a wonderful event).
-Kaiser Chiefs and Oasis did a new album.
-I went to Rome and to France (twice) for the first time in my life.
-I started learning Spanish and philosophy (!).
BAD THINGS:
-Frank was investigated by ALAD and there were lots of people that said that CSC riders were all doped.Grrrr!
-Hautacam stage.What a sufference!
-Armstrong returns racing. The problem is not his return, but the fact that Italian press dedicates too much time to him.The articles of the Gazzetta dello Sport just talk about Armstrong, Basso, Armstrong, Bettini, Armstrong, Riccò, Armstrong and Armstrong. What a bore!
-Berlusconi returned Italian first minister. That’s a very very very bad thing.
-The terrorist outrage in Mumbay (and all the other ones that I don’t remember-sorry for my bad memory).
-I argued with my best friend because of a French holiday and a Dutch boy (ah,the globalization!) and we haven’t talked for the last 3 months.

So,these were some of the good and bad things that happened in 2008 (I don’t have a good memory,so please don’t get angry if something’s missing...).
Now I’d like to express my "cyclistic" dreams for the year 2009:
1.Andy changes his mind at the last moment and decides to run the Giro.He partecipates after a wonderful victory in Liege-Bastogne-Liege and he wins also the Giro.He also wins the stage that ends up in Bergamo. That day I’m near to the finish line,I manage to talk to him and he gives me his phone number. Then we get engaged :)

In July he races also the Tour and he arrives 3rd behind his brother and someone else (you know, after the Giro’s win he’s a bit tired...).Then he takes a long rest and he arrives on the podium of the Worlds and of the Tour of Lombardy.

2.The second dream is about Frank:
He wins the Amstel Gold Race and the Fleche Wallonne, but he arrives 2nd in the Liege behind his little brother. They arrive alone and they cross the finish line together.Only the photofinish tells that the winner’s Andy. Then Frank decides to run the Giro as a helper for his brother. He arrives in the top 10 and wins the mountain (or vulcanic?) stage that ends on Vesuvio (I don’t know why,but that stage ispires me). Then he wins the Tour de Suisse and also the Tour de France (with the stage of Mont Ventoux). He then wins the Worlds and the Tour of Lombardy.
I’d also like other things to happen:
1.The journalists forget about Frank’s problems with that famous 7000 Euros.
2.Chris-Anker Sorensen wins a stage in the Tour.
3.Nobody of Csc (or Saxo-Bank,call it as you want) results positive to a doping-test.That’s all I hope. What do you think, can these dreams come true? And what are your dreams for 2009?

ANOTHER INTERVIEW!:
As you all know,in this period I’ve got nothing to do except translating interviews. This time I’ve translated an article of “Corriere della Sera.it” (“I fratelli Schleck, una persona sola.E per il Tour si scomoda anche Sarkozy”,that’s the title) about the Schleck brothers and the Tour.I hope you’ll understand my horrible English and that you’ll enjoy the article!
Cuneo: Winning the Tour de France as a pair:the mission impossible of the Schleck brothers has begun in Pratonevoso and will continue today,in front of the French President Nicolas Sarkozy, that will arrive at the Tour on an helicopter. The Tour returns to France to go on the highest asphalt road of Europe, the col de la Bonnette (2802 m),and to face a crazy descent of 23 kms towards the finish line in Jausiers.
Considering that in 49” there are the first 6 riders of the GC,the Tour of the scandals is still very open.As open as the letter that Ricco’s teammates have written to their sponsors (Saunier Duval and Scott) in order to dissociate themselves from their teammates’ behaviour;they’re a very united team,no doubt about it.Even Frank Schleck can count on a very united (and very controlled by the men of the Antidoping) team:the CSC of the yellow jersey is compact and determined even on the rest day,in front of the cameras and the microphones of the journalists. But the most important weapon of the 28 year-old from Luxembourg could be his brother Andy,23 year-old,at his first Tour de France. The youngest of Johnny Schleck’son is considered the more talented, but on Hautacam climb he lost nearly 9 minutes and so he can’t fight for the final victory anymore.Andy attacked on Sunday and he will probably attack again in the next days, not only for his brother but even for the other team’s leader,Carlos Sastre. But when he talks,Andy just refers to his big brother.Because racing against the Schlecks,as the adversaries say,“is just like racing against one single person”. Frank won on the Alpe d’Huez in 2006,but before of wearing the yellow jersey he said that the best day of his career was this year, when he came 3rd in the Liege behind Valverde and Rebellin.“I didn’t win that race, but it was just like I did it”,says Frank.“In the last part of the race we were in four, and for the first time Andy was with me in the ultimate part of such an important race:it was something of unbelievable,an absolutely wonderful moment”.With the helmets and the glasses on,the two brothers are often confused by the other riders, just like two twin stars.“Maybe without realizing it”,Frank continues,“but we try to exploit the likeness between us in order to confuse our adversaries”. “I 've signed hundreds of autographs on Frank’s photos!",laughs Andy.
Always together, even when they’re not racing, the Schleck brothers relax themselves going fishing and hunting with their dogs.Today, the yellow jersey’s hunt is not a joke.“For the moment I’m enjoying this moment”,Frank explains,“and I’ll keep on attaccking together with the team for make it last as long as possible.I’m realist: time trials are not my speciality,so Carlos and I have to try to win the Tour on the last climbs.” Winning the Tour, maybe as a pair. What a satisfaction!
NB:I hope you've enjoyed the interview! If something’s not clear, please let me know!
Anyway, talking about the likeness of the two brothers,I’ve found this pic (on lu.photo, while the first pic is by Tim De Waele and the second one from Corvospro) and the caption says that the two guys in the photo are Virenque and Frank (!).Doesn’t Frank look like Andy?

MERRY CHRISTMAS TO EVERYBODY!:
And so Christmas day has come and gone.Sorry if I wish you a merry Christmas just now,but yesterday I was so busy that I couldn't write anything on my blog.I had a lot of fun here at home with my family (daddy, mommy,my sister Roberta and me),my grandparents and 3 of my uncles with their families. We had a huge lunch (lasagne, meat and lots of sweets!) and then we talked together a lot.
During the lunch,my uncles,my father and my grandfather started talking 'bout cycling. My mother suggested going to Alpe di Siusi in order to see the Giro's stage ending there, and my uncle told her that it was better to go to see the Mont Ventoux stage at the Tour.I immediately agreed with him, because the Schleck brothers in 2009 will race the Tour (and not the Giro,as my mother found out yesterday) and because anyway this year I'll see the Giro live when it will arrive in Bergamo, just like it did in 2007 (in that occasion I could even see Andy live!!!! It was one of the greatest afternoons of my life!).
Then,my little diabolic sister revealed the existence of my blog to my uncles and (after lots of laughs) they told me that,as soon as they got home, they would have searched it through the Internet.Grrrr!
Then, while she was talking about my blog,my mother also found the time of saying "Slerch" instead of Schleck. There's no hope left, she'll never learn how to pronounce their surname correctly...
Today I had another wonderful day.As soon as I woke up,I had a big surprise:the snow!
Then,at noon,I went to the house of my other grandparents.I stayed there all day (there were also all my aunts with their families) and I had lots of fun.
And there's also another good news:I've tried to modify my blog so that anyone can leave a comment.I hope I've made it...I've also made (or at least tried to make) another thing on my blog.I've noticed that the hour at which you publish a post appears under every new post you make. And I've also noticed that the hours under my posts were completely wrong. For example, some days ago I published a post at 2 pm,but the hour that appeared under it was 5 am,so I was like "Ehm...there must be something wrong here...but what?" And well, today I've found out what was wrong! I just had to change the time zone...
Hopefully, now my blog will be a little better (even if I wanted to post some photos of my garden covered in white and I couldn't...).However,if you have problems with it or suggestion (or if you just want to talk 'bout what you did on Christmas day),you're free to leave a comment!
Bye!

Earthquake (and a new translated interview...)!

Finally, tomorrow is Christmas day.I love Christmas period because for two weeks the schools are closed and, here at home,I’ve got nothing to do.Well, actually,I should do my homework but,as usual,I’ll do them all in the last week of holiday...Anyway,yesterday I was at home with nothing to do and I translated another interview. It is quite old (I’ve taken it from Eurosport website) but the last part is very funny.
Another "funny" thing is that yesterday, while I was translating this interview, here in Italy came an earthquake.I was talking on the phone in front of my computer when suddenly the screen started shaking. Then I heard a scream in the living room and my sister and her friend (13 and 10 year-old) came to me,very frightened.I told them that there was nothing to worry about and that,if they wanted, they could go under the table (and so they did). Then I phoned my grandmother and at first she told me that my sister and her friend probably had imagined everything because she hadn’t felt nothing at all, then when I told her that I felt the earthquake too,she didn’t look worried and she just told me to keep my sister and her friend quiet (we were at home alone). Then, after 30 minutes, she came up to me (she lives in the flat under mine) and she said that even my uncle that lives in Bergamo and our neighbour felt the erthquake. Then I found out that people in nearly all the North of Italy felt this earthquake and some relatives called on the phone to talk about the day’s fact.Fortunately it didn't happen anything,so I could finish to translate the interview :)

From the “Eurosport” website,July 2008
The Grande Boucle starts between a few days. From Saturday, the Tour will start to look for the heir of Alberto Contador, the winner of the last edition of the race.We interviewed Frank and Andy Schleck, luxembourgian brothers that hope to be protagonists in France.
Between two days, the most beautiful race of the world will take off from Brest.Italian hopes are put into the legs (and the head) of Damiano Cunego,Lampre’s leader and main Italian contender for the final victory.
Between the possible protagonists in the French race there are, without any doubt, the two Luxembourgian brothers Frank and Andy Schleck,of Team Csc.Their lives run parallel one to another and the unity that exists between them is unique because of their blood tie.Frank, the eldest of the two brothers and the most expert, says:“I’ve got wonderful teammates that protect me and make me feel safe. But everything changes when I’m on Andy’s wheel*: I feel a lot safer there”.
There are 5 years of difference between the two brothers:Frank was born in 1980,Andy in 1985. Frank talks about his form:“I think I can do well in long stages. When in a stage there’s a climb immediately after 50 km,I don’t think I can do any difference, but I’m sure I can do better than other riders on the climbs that are placed in the last part of hard stages, after 180-200 km, because I stand the strain (the fatigue) better than other riders do”.
Andy supports Frank’s words. “Maybe we’ve inherited something from our father. He always says that you see a true rider only after he’s been racing for 200 km”.
In the last Tour de Suisse,Frank had a very bad fall, even if he didn’t break anything. “We’ve got a big advantage in being together in the same team:we’re roomates,we know each other perfectly and we don’t have the need to say things one to each other.Anyway, when there’s a fall, our first thought is to look around in order to find out where the other is,if he hasn’t fallen,if he’s alright.”
Running and having fun, that’s their motto.“Once our teammates were at the Sachsen Tour”,Andy tells us.“It was about 6 o’clock’ in the morning and Frank and I were fishing. Then we decided to send some photos to Stuart O’Grady through our cells. He answered us with a sms that said ‘I can’t understand:how can you be so strong if you never train?’.We had a laugh and we returned fishing”.
Frank, first on the Alpe d’Huez in 2006,and Andy, best young rider and secon in the final GC of the last year Giro d’Italia, are right. When you have fun, everything becomes easier.
*I’m not sure of the translation...it would mean:when I’m behind Andy during a race

I WANT THE SNOW!!!
Yesterday I was checking my blog when my father entered my room and asked me: “What site are you watching?” I answered:“Ehm...You know, the normal things I usually watch, nothing special...”. Then,he noticed that I was working on a blog and asked me “What is a blog? I’ve already listened that name but I’ve never understood what it is.Have you opened your own one?” “Well,a blog is...You know,a place where you can write things, other people leave comments and so on... And yes, that’s my blog” “Have you opened your own blog? What is it about? Horses?” “Well,actually,no...It is about...ehm...Try to guess who...” “The Sleck brothers? I can’t believe it! Who would be interested in a blog in Italian about them?”.Then he went out of my room laughing. How embarassing! However:
1.I think (or,better,I know) that some people are interested in this kind of blog.
2.I don’t see anything of strange about this.I mean,I’m writing about cycling (and cyclists),not about strange things...And I think I’m more nomal than a classmate of mine that uses the Internet everyday just for approfundise (is this the correct verb?) what we learn at school.
3.The blog is not in Italian, but in English.
4.Their surname is Schleck, not Sleck! Unfortunately,in my family there is no one that can pronunciate (or write) it correctly. My mother says “Screk”,my grandfather says “Shrek”...What a sad thing...Another sad thing is that here in my village there is no snow at all! Someone thinks about Christmas period and imagines:Jesus Christ (not always),Father Christmas, the Christmas tree, the big lunch, the presents, the panettone (especially here in Italy) and THE SNOW!! Well, lots of hills that I see from the place where I live are covered in white, but here...Well,better watch some “snowy” photos of cyclists, while I’m waiting for the real snow to come...

CHRISTMAS HOLIDAYS AND OAKLEY GLASSES:

Yuppi! The Christmas holiday have finally begun! I won’t go to school for the next 2 weeks,so I’m very happy. However, here in my family the fights for the Christmas day’s lunch have already begun. “You must bring lasagne!” “No,I want to bring the cake!” “No,she will bring the cake, not you!” “You always decide without asking me nothing! That’s not fair!” and lots of things like these. You can imagine what a wonderful Christmas I’ll spend!
However, let’s talk about interesting things. Some weeks ago, wandering ‘round the Internet,I found Oakley’s website and there I found this interesting (even if quite short) interview about Frank.I think it’s quite interesting,so if you want you can take a look...

“I have a weakness with my eyes-I don’t see well without a prescription. And I can’t wear contacts. So a lot of times when I was younger, I’d get headaches. But since I started wearing Oakley prescription glasses,I stopped having the headaches because my eyes don’t have to work as hard as before. They make my vision better at the races, where I’ve really got to be focused”.
Bloodlines. That’s what racing bikes is to the Schleck family name: a birthright. It started when his grandfather burned pavement with Eddie Merckx back in the day.It trickled down to Frank, who wanted to take his older brother’s accomplishments one step further. And look out world:Frank’s little bro’s on the rise. His racing ethos are tied to his simple, eloquent life slogan:yearning to have little boy dreams.Ones big enough to fulfill the need to extend the family ties.
Interview
The secret to your success:
Having fun while I’m riding my bike. Sitting there racing with my buddies, feeling really good with my team. We’re not just teammates. We’re friends. We’re each other’s biggest fans. You always have to remember where you came from, where your family is.And they’re my family.
Best part of racing for a living:
I have the opportunity to make a career out of my hobby. Riding my bike was a childhood dream-I never thought that I could reach that level. Now, that hobby -my passion -is my work. That makes it easier to focus on what it takes to go forward-faster-every year.
What gets me on the bike everyday:
Passion. Somehow,we’re just freaks.Every day,we’re in the mountains killing each other. And long before the finish line, you reach a point where you’re totally spent. But the next day,as soon as the race starts, you just go.We’re crazy. The harder you go, the more pain you have. And in a way…the better it is.
It’s worth it because:
That feeling, when you’re out there training in the rain and then you come home to hit the showers. You’ve trained your ass off…but you’re never satisfied with yourself.Because you know that anybody else could be stronger than you on a given day.And even when I’m winning,I’m suffering like a motherf*****. It’s just a little more mental motivation.

MY BLOG:

So,here I am.It’s a nice winter evening here in Italy,I’ve got nothing to do and between 24 hours I’ll be on holiday. And suddenly,in this wonderful, calm atmosphere I had an idea:why don’t I create a blog? A blog about me,my life,my hobbies and my greatest passion:cycling.I’ve got a computer (even if it’s old and it doesn’t work very well,it’s a computer) and I’ve also got photos, interviews of my favourite cyclists and other things I can share with other people who love this wonderful sport.Who are my favourite cyclists? Well, that’s obvious:The Schleck Brothers! They’re strong, young, beautiful and they’re honest (even if some stupid people disagree with me on the last point). And so,I’d like to start my blog with an interview that the two brothers did for an Italian magazine. It is an old interview, but I think it’s quite interesting.I’ve translated it from Italian to English and I just hope people (if someone will ever read my blog...I don’t know if this will happen) will understand what I wrote. However,if you don’t understand something, leave a comment and I’ll try to make things clearer...I hope this interview is new for you!
From the “Tuttobiciweb” article of March 2008 written by Francesco Cerruti: A face to face, frank and sincere, between two very strong riders, that make a whole nation, Luxembourg, dream. They are the Schleck brothers, young, beautiful and promising boys. Thanks to them, their parents, their team (Team Csc of Bjarne Riis),the fans from all over the world that have chosen them as the symbol of a cycling that is rapidly changing his face can dream.A face to face like the “Iene”’s ones (ndr; “Le Iene”-”The hyenas”-is an Italian programme) between two polite boys that want to be “hyenas” just when they’re riding on their bikes.
