3rd stage of the Tour:Cavendish!

Today's stage was a very thrilling one, especially at the end. With 25 kms to go (when at the head of the race there were still Maxime Bouet,Samuel Dumoulin,Ruben Perez Moreno and Koen de Kort) Columbia's riders made a "ventaglio" (aka, they split the group with the help of the crosswind) because "None of the other sprinters teams would come up and help,so we just got angry and decided to split the bunch in the crosswinds," (Hincapie's words). The 4 breakaway riders got caught soon and at the head of the race remained just 27 riders: Columbia and Skill Shimano's riders were in that group together with Hushvod,Fabian Cancellara,Armstrong, Zubeldia and Popovych.
Cancellara was actually the only rider of Saxo Bank in the leading group. In fact all his teammates were surprised by the attack of the Columbia guys and ended up in the chasing group, together with guys like Evans,Menchov,Sastre,Vande Velde and, last but not least,Alberto Contador.Yes,he was there as well. And in front,as I've already written, there was Sir Lancelot. And at a certain point Sir Lancelot sent Zubeldia and Popovych to pull the leading group and managed to gain 40 seconds on his teammate (and on all the other GC riders). The problem is that tomorrow there's a TTT and yes,Saxo Bank is strong (even if the riders worked a lot today),but is Astana actually weaker? Fangirl says "Saxo Bank is the best team in the world, they've got Cancellara,Larsson and many other good riders,so they will surely win tomorrow's stage!!!!",but Logic stops her and says:"Astana's got Armstrong,Contador,Leipheimer and Kloden,so they're probably going to win tomorrow".And if Astana wins tomorrow, sir Lancelot may get the yellow jersey. And Contador is Armstrong's teammate,so things will become more interesting (and more annoying for the Spaniard).
Anyway, today's stage was finally won by Cavendish, while Fab Fab kept his yellow jersey.
Regarding Saxo Bank, you all probably know that Andy is on Twitter.Well, also Kurt-Asle Arvesen is on that website and C.A.Sorensen has decided to update his blog more often. It looks as if the boys want to keep the fans informed...Anyway,here's what Kurt-Asle Arvesen wrote after the stage: "And then we woke up! We slept today, and only got Fabian up there. Hat off for Colombia! They are flying. TTT is going to be a thriller!"
Andy instead was more optimistic after the stage: "Cool Lance thanks of you many followers now!today a shit day we were not in the split but yes it is how it is I take it on my cap did no It not a Drama!the main favorits exept Lance were with me!it a long way to Paris!".He's right,but...well,I think everybody would have prefered to see the Schlecks at sir Lancelot's place.
After the stage Cancellara (who kept his yellow jersey) instead said: "Too bad for Andy,he was trapped inside the wind along with many other riders, but that's sport, that is the Tour de France, but luckily we still have the yellow jersey.I was in the right place at the right time".
So,now Fangirl hopes that tomorrow will be a better day for Saxo Bank, but Logic thinks Astana will be stronger.Of course,Logic will be very happy if it will end up as Fangirl thinks.

  1. Oh, you too have issues with Fangirl and Logic disagreeing? Well, they better both be cheering for Andy!

  2. Yes,I've taken the idea from your blog (hope it's not a problem). There was a great debate between Logic and Fangirl during the Italian road race Championship.Fangirl: "There are many good riders:Nibali,Cunego,Ballan...Why should HGS win?" Logic:"The parcours doesn't suit Nibali,Ballan is not in good form and Cunego is weaker than Pozzato in the sprints,so Pippo will win (with the help of HGP,of course)".Unfortunately Logic turned out to be right and this left me astonished for some days.
