The start of the season, interview with Frank Schleck, Sorensen's blog and more:

After a busy week in which we reflected more than usual about the pronounciation of the riders' names, miss Fede is back with another super-random post and is glad to announce that, finally, the 2011 cycling season has officially begun! Yayyyyy!
The first race of the year (apart from the Australian Championships) was Cancer Council Helpline Classic in Adelaide. The race ended in a sprint, which was won by the Tasmanian Matthew Goss for HTC Columbia.
2010 is over, but HTC Columbia keeps on getting great results in the sprints! Cavendish didn't have a good day, he eventually came 108th, but his teammates managed to get the Top 2 of the race anyway. Impressive, isn't it?
Talking about Cavendish, however, it must be said that Henderson crashed at the end of the race and his crash probably caused some problems also to other riders.
3rd in the sprint was Robbie McEwen (hope he'll win some races this year!), while 4th was a great Elia Viviani. 5th was Chris Sutton, while 6th was a very good Davide Viganò. Imo that was the best reply he could give to a Gazzetta journalist, who some days ago wrote: 'It's amazing how Viganò can manage to ride for such good teams although he has never got good results'.

Unfortunately I can't add anything new to what has already been said about the race, since I couldn't see it because of the time zone. Anyway, here you have some random randomness collected by me this afternoon.
INTERVIEW WITH FRANK SCHLECK:
http://www.tageblatt.lu/sport/radsport/story/21130532 : First of all, as you probably know, team Leopard Trek is having a training camp in Mallorca in these days. Photos are available almost everywhere and on the link above you can find some nice ones.
A Luxembourgian newspaper, Tageblatt (check link above again), is giving a lot of attention to Leopard Trek's training camp and is reporting the activities of every single day of training on its website.
On http://www.tageblatt.lu/sport/story/30253999 you can also find a great interview with Frank Schleck that was done by Tageblatt's Cristophe Junker. I found it very nice, so here you have a translation of some of its parts (I had to translate it from German, so I already apology for the eventual mistakes):
'Andy and I came here in Mallorca two, three days before of the other riders and I'm very happy about this. In this way we could ride our bikes for three days. You just need to look at the weather in Luxembourg to understand that it's very complicated to train outside in this period. Moreover, in December it snowed a lot in Luxembourg, so we had to catch up a bit with training before of the training camp (...). So far the time here at the camp has passed really fast. Our days are full of training, massages, interviews, photos...'
Journalist: the team has received a lot of attention from the press. Is it because it is the n.1 team of the world? Or is it a normal thing for a new team?
Frank: I think it's a combination of these 2 factors (...). Of course the 'new team' factor has been important. Moreover, in these team there are many strong riders and this creates a lot of interest in the team. We try to present us as very open people, we also try to be always very puntual at the interviews, not like I've done with you today (grins and looks at his wristwatch, ndr)'
(...)
Journalist: In March 2010 the Italian newspaper 'Gazzetta dello Sport' reported the first rumours about the creation of a Luxembourgian team.
'I will not deny that at the time we had heard something about the possible creation of a Luxembourgian team. People talked a lot about it, but these talks weren't interesting for us.
J: Why?
'Because there was nothing of concrete behind them'.
J: When did they become concrete?
'We had lots of talks and contacts going on with other teams, because many people were interested in making us sign a contract with them. What is happening right now, at the time it was just a dream, a dream that now has come true. After the Tour of Luxembourg we received a concrete offer. We were more than happy when we accepted it. 4 days later, we went to a training camp in Switzerland and we informed Bjarne about the offer we had received. We were 100% sincere with him and we informed him as soon as we could. Bjarne couldn't make us any offer, because at the time he didn't have any sponsor for 2011.
J: When did you hear the first rumours about Alberto Contador joining Riis?
'During the Tour de France, like everyone else. However, in the small article that appeared on la Gazzetta in March 2010, not only did they report many things about Luxembourg; they also wrote that Contador would have gone to Riis' team.
J: How is the relationship between you and Bjarne nowadays?
'There isn't any problem between us. Of course Andy and I were disappointed when Riis said that we had lied to him. In the meanwhile, however, we've got over it. (...)

'I still firmly believe that Andy and I are a bit late on our preparation. We miss kilometers. In the team, I actually feel like a captain. If there is a problem, the young guys come to talk to me. People respect me and I feel very well in this situation. This also derives from the fact that I feel very well in this team. I was surprised after today's test, it was very good. Andy and I were a bit afraid of it. However, during the winter I didn't put on weight, although I didn't pay attention to it'. (not: I'm not very sure about the translation of this part, if it's wrong please let me know)
J: What are the team's goals for the first weeks of the season?
A team is already 'down under'. Will Clark, who is a neo pro, won 5 races in 6weeks last year. And to win those races, you really need to be a good rider. I've seen him riding and I'm sure he has a bright future in front of himself. At Paris-Nice, Jakob Fuglsang and I will try to have good results, but we don't want to have pressure on us. If I get a good result there, good. If I don't, it won't be a problem.
J: What about Flavio Becca?
'My father has known him for a lot of time. He had the idea of creating this team. We owe him a lot.
J: How did you come to the team's creation? Did he phone you all of a sudden to tell you that he wanted to create a team?
'Yes, it was something like that. Like his father Aldo, he had always been a great cycling fan. His passion has become bigger and bigger over the years, and now it has brought him at this point. One day he gave us his word and, since he's a 'homme de parole', he respected it. This season we want to pay him back for what he did for us by creating this team'.
(Interview by Cristophe Junker)

NEWS FROM LEOPARD TREK TEAM:
Still talking about team Leopard Trek, the other day our blogmate Leela pointed out on her blog(http://justfuglen.tumblr.com/ ) a letter that Leopard Trek has apparently sent to the people who work in the cycling media. In said letter (read it on:
http://www.cyclesportmag.com/news-and-comment/cs-blog-an-open-letter-to-leopard-trek/ ) Leopard Trek guys pointed out that:
- you should never write Team Leopard Trek, but 'Leopard Trek team';
- you should pronounce 'Leopard' as LAY-oh-pard;
- you should never write Leopard-Trek.
- you should always write Leopard Trek in caps (LEOPARD TREK).
After noticing that I've made every single possible mistake while writing the name of this team, me thinks that I won't be following any of these rules on this blog. After all, I didn't receive any mail from LeOpArD TREK, did I? ;)

CHRIS SORENSEN'S BLOG:
Let's now talk about another team, Saxo Bank Sungard. Or, better, let's talk about one of its riders, Chris Anker Sorensen. Since the beginning of the new year, in fact, Chris updated his blog twice and his first 2011 post was really good. In it Chris talked about his 2010 achievements and here you have a partial translation of of it:
(achievements of the 2010 year):
'Won a stage in the Giro (...). Helped Matti B. to get a silver medal. Rode the Tour for the second year, this time without writing a book. I had 89 days of race and rode 33000 kms. I stayed in 80 different hotels during the year and had 193 travel days'.
'Changed Luxembourg with Lucca and Moyenne with Ciao' (...)
'Speaking of Bangkok, during the year I've often been told this joke by Richie Porte. "What is the capital of Thailand?", he asks. Then he yells "Bang Kok" and hits a certain part of his body (only Richie, who is a gentleman, actually does so)'.
'I broke a collarbone in Barcelona and slid into a wall on a descent towards Como'.
'I was in New York shouting "Deefence" in Madison Square Garden. It was during a basketball match and together with thousands other people, so I didn't do it because I'm mad (...)'
'I became really good at making risotto and got a good knowledge of Italian wine. Found out that I am completely hopeless to make cappuccino after visiting the real king of cappuccinos in Monsummano Terme'.

2011 KITS:
Last link for today, here's an artice by Cyclingnews about the teams' new kits: http://www.cyclingnews.com/features/the-good-the-bad-and-the-ugly-2011-team-kits . I don't agree with saying that Radioshack's kit is the best one of 2011. Actually, I find it pretty unoriginal. Talking about other teams, I really like Quick Step kit and I'm pretty keen on Katusha's new one too. On the other hand, I think Lampre's jerseys are too flashy and I don't really like Liquigas' new ones. Btw, remember one thing: the day we're all awaiting, aka the presentation of Geox (former Fuji-Servetto), is the 31st of January. Will Geox guys shock the world with their kits for the second year in a row or will they improve? Me (together with Denis Menchov and Carlos Sastre) can't wait to know the answer.

PRONOUNCIATION ISSUE:
As I could see from the waterfall of comments that followed my last post, the pronounciation issue is a topic that interest everyone of us. Perhaps we could really have pronounciation classes, and now I'll explain you how.
Mar has said that she'll kindly do voice posts about the names of Dutch riders on her blog. If you want to ask her what the correct pronounciation of some names is, write her on her Tumblr (see 'my favourite blog' list at your right) and she'll surely help you.
As far as non-Dutch names are concerned, I think we could make a list of the most complicated names to pronounce (in our opinion) and divide those names in categories, according to their nationality. Then it would be great if a person from every country could tell us if the pronounciation of those names on Google Translater is right or not. If it isn't, those people could make us a big favour by posting a YouTube video in which the name of the rider is correctly pronounced. Anyone agrees?

  1. Good morning! (well for me anyway!) ;) I love that interview with Frank! And how gorgeous is it that he feels like a captain of the team? I can imagine he would be so lovely to the young riders... And of course give them a good ribbing from time to time as well! ;)

I watched the Cancer Council Classic last night. It was great to see cycling back on TV - this does not happen a lot in Australia. TDU is great for promoting cycling here!! :) I was excited to watch and to see Martin Mortensen qwin one of the sprints - I made my mum high-5 me after that! Hahaha After that the Leopard Trek team sort of got lost in the peloton, maybe cos Stuey crashed and they lost a bit of organization? But it was awesome that Davide managed to come in 6th!! I kinda went a bit crazy about it... My family just looked on in amusement/worry! LOL

I think it's a great idea re the voice posts on how to pronounce names. Though I have a feeling I for one will be doing a lot of listening and no instructing! ;) I doubt there's any Australian names you have difficulty with :P

  2. The news from Leopard Trek: Isn't that stupid? :P OK, I get where it's coming from: we've just been talking about pronunciation and spelling and it can be really annoying but come on! All they got out of that is people doing the exact opposite, right?
I do think it's nice that they're just called 'Leopard Trek' and not 'Team Leopard Trek' because some Danish journalists and commentators have decided to say 'Team Saxo Bank-holdet' ('holdet' means 'the team' in Danish) - so basically they're saying 'the Team Saxo Bank team' and I find that sooo annoying!
But I won't be writing it in caps. Mostly because it always makes me feel like someone is screaming at me! xD

2011 kits: I did watch the race and all the new kits confused me :P And it didn't help that the commentators were just as confused.
I agree with you on the Radioshack kit - I don't get why it's so popular...

Pronunciation issue: Yup, let's do that ^.^

  3. For anyone who did watch the race - did you notice Phil Liggett talking as though O'Grady was still racing for JJ Haedo/SaxoBank?? LOL It's obviously taking some people some time to get used to the switches between teams :P

I'm still laughing about that Bangkok joke from Richie...

    So funny!
Oh, I'm getting a bit nervous for my voice post.. My english (speaking) is crap! Even more if I speak Dutch too.. Well, I'll just do it!

  5. Hey Schlecklanders!

Well, there you go: I have just seen my first photo of the sprint finish of the Tour Down Under (is that distant sniggering I hear?) Prologue, and I said, "ah, Sky, Sky, Sky" but the left hand one was Team Schlux.... sorry boys, the kit is TOO SIMILAR (apparently we have to speak in capitals for them to hear us) to that of Sky, and Garmin, and SaxoBlank, and actually the Movistar kit as well.

The pale blue stripe just isn't working... but just see how Frankie's National jersey looks so nice, perhaps they just need to add a red stripe to the basic kit. OK, we need a sponsor whose logo is a red stripe....

BTW Fede my dear, I always think of you as FeeDee, should it be more like Feddy? I couldn't think what you meant about people mis-pronouncing it with an "r", until you wrote out Federica, and suddenly I saw the problem: yes, it does look a bit like Frederica, which, btw, is also a name in English.

(Although in English it has the same meaning as Nigella and Alana: ie "my parents wanted a boy.")

I couldn't decide if the whole LEOPARD TREK thing was a joke, a spoof, or not: but I have just noticed that on Twitter - thank you Leelu, for pointing me at the riders' section, but I still think it's not for me - that Ken Sommer etc type it that way on their tweets. So, what can we deduce from that? Well, that means they have to choose to use capitals, it takes longer than just typing in ordinary txt, Tweeting is all about being quick, therefore they must think it IS important if they are prepared to waste time doing it. So maybe it's a true story, after all.

In which case, they will have to be known as Team LeOpArd-treK-holdet from now on.

    So there!

  6. @ Leela: Frank seems a great team captain indeed, he looks so calm and sweet with the younger guys!

Finally you Aussies manage to watch some cycling at a decent time of the day, that's great! Oh, and I know the feeling when you're watching a cycling race and your whole family is there ;)
Martin and Davide did a very good job indeed the other day. Stuey instead was as unlucky as usual, poor boy.

I'm sorry to disappoint you, but I actually have some doubts about a few Australian/Tasmanian/New Zealand names: Cameron Wurf, Travis Meyer, Hayden Roulston and Richie Porte (yes, Italian chronists have managed to confuse me with their way of pronouncing this latter name). Therefore, I'm afraid that you too might have to instruct someone (if you want, of course)... :P

Oh, and don't worry when you leave comments as an anonymous. As long as you make us known that it's you that's writing, I don't have any problem with it :)

@ Susanne: I agree about calling it 'Leopard Trek' or 'Leopard Trek team' (the mistakes in the post were intentional), but I'm not going to write the team's name in caps because I don't think it's fair towards other teams.
Btw I don't think it's nice that they've sent an e-mail like that to cycling media. It makes the team look arrogant and too precise imo.

I don't want to think about the confusion I'll feel while watching the first races of the year. It will take me yers to get used to Katusha and Garmin's new kits and it will also take me a lot of time to remember which riders are still racing for Saxo Bank and which aren't!

@ Mar: I can actually imagine how scandalised did Chris look after Richie showed him this joke for the first time ;)

That's an hilarious post indeed! Lol at the dolphins (and at the mirrors and at the roman sandals and at Napoleon's statue and at many other things!)

Don't worry for your spoken English, it can't be worse than mine. After all, you're writing to a girl who has one of the worst Bergamask accents of the village (if you're not Italian, I'm afraid you won't be able to understand the gravity of this fact ;) So don't worry, I'm sure that your voice post will be a success!

@ CG: good day dear! Unfortunately, nowadays it seems that fantasy is a very rare quality amongst cycling designers. I already know that I'll keep on getting confused between SB and Leopard Trek this season. Actually, the other day I was looking at SB website in order to find some information about Matti Breschel's schedule- then I remembered about his injury and about his team's change :S

Perhaps the boys could add a red stripe with a 'Fangirls we love you' sentence to make the kit easier to recognise in the peloton...

If you really want to call me FeeDee, well, you're free to do it. However, I'm not going to tolerate the use of the 'Feddy' nickname. It looks a bit too much like 'Freddy' imo!

Actually, my name should mean 'The one who brings peace' or something like that. What a b...,ehm, I meant, what a strange, meaningless thing.

I completely agree with the 'Team LeOpArD-treK-holdet' thing, it's a great idea. If he ever happened to read this, Brian Nygaard would write our names in his black books in 60 seconds time!

    RispondiElimina
  7. Hey Fede, I love the idea of the red stripe with "Fangirls we love you" on it! Very good!

Going back to pronounciation, I meant that in my head, when I read "Fede", I am saying "feedee" in two syllables like that. Is that right? Does that mean that your full name is pronounced fee-dee-REE-ka? Is that the right syllable to be stressed? Or is it fed-der-REE-ker? Do tell!

    Cameron Wurf = Kammer-on Wuhrr-f

    Travis Meyer - Tra-viss My-ehrr. (not May-ehrr)

    Hayden Roulston = Hay-D'n Rahl-st'n

    and Richie Porte - Ree-chee Por-turr.

That's how they come out in the UK!

  8. Ha, ha, 'Team LeOpArd-treK-holdet'! I have to copy-paste that because I'm too lazy to actually write that out - but great :D

@Fede: I agree with you on the mail. It makes them seem pretentious and I was just beginning to think that they weren't taking themselves too seriously...

I'm with you on the "Fangirls we love you" stripe :D

Uh, yes, Fede, do tell! I'm having problems with your name too because (and I mean this in the nicest way possible) "fede" in Danish means "fat" - and I'm really trying to ignore it! xD

    (@Coug: Yeah, I'm still sniggering!)

    RispondiElimina
  9. @ Cougar Girl: The stress in my name is on the third syllable, that's correct :)
If you want to hear the correct pronounciation, go on http://translate.google.it/#it|en|federica and click on 'Ascolta'. You can also write 'Fede', they pronounce those two words very well :)

Thank you very much for the help with those names. I'm glad to know that my way of pronouncing them wasn't that wrong! ;)

@ Susanne: it makes them look pretentious indeed and I think they're not going to have too many friends in the cycling media by behaving this way. Btw, I wonder what the people who work for Danish cycling magazines thought when they got the mail ;)

Fede means 'fat' in Danish? That's funny, since in Italian it actually means 'faith'. Fat faith, sounds strange! ;)
Btw, I suggest you going to Google Translate too to hear the correct pronounciation of my name ;) (I don't write its English pronounciation because I'm afraid I'd make a big mess out of it!)

Talking about the 'Fangirls we love you' stripe, is there anyone who could make this idea known to Brian Nygaard? Tell him that, if he accepts our idea, he'll receive about 10 euros (and a lock of hair) from each of us!

    RispondiElimina
  10. @COUGAR GIRL, finally you're back!!!!I knew it :). Thanks.

@Fede, I would pronounce your name something like fayday. Is that right?

About the kit, I think it's quite simple; they just expecting (or rather hoping) that most riders will get their national stripes on it or gain a coloured one in the different tours.

    RispondiElimina
  11. Morning, troops,

I wonder what Brian Nygaard and Our Boys think about the LEEohforgodsakePARD bit: the memo came from Trek, not from Leopard True Racing, didn't it?

If it really is "real" and not a spoof, then I think it is extremely stupid and will not make them any friends in the media, nor on other teams: everyone on race days wanting to talk to them will have to SHOUT THEIR NAME out loud to avoid contravening the naming regulations.....

Right, pronounciation: Fede, that Google translate is remarkable, isn't it? (Wish it did Luxemburgisch.... no, no, I mustn't .....) So I am wrong to think of you as FeeDee, it is more like FayDay but a bit shorter. No, I don't mean that you are short, I mean your name! I will stop thinking of you as FeeDee immediately.

Perhaps we can persuade Team Schlux (can't be bothered to type it the way they insist) to put up a video clip of each rider on the website,as Team Sky have done: that way, they can all say their own names, which must be the best pronounciation.

Actually - diversion - I have just finally got around to looking at their website: oh dear, dull, duller, dullest. I'm glad it says "full version online soon" otherwise we might think that that (points at dull screen) was all we were getting. So far, it appears that they have copied Team Sky's website layout, as well as their kit.

Talking of kit, and hoping for a red stripe, I have my lock of hair all ready to send, if Brian agrees.... I don't have any Euros (not pronounced Oir-oh, I know better now) as we don't have them in the UK, but I can send him a fiver, or a voucher for one kiss, to be redeemed by the team member of his choice, as long as his initial are ARS.

Which incidentally is a bit unfortunate in English! But we're not going there!

  13. @ Barbara: yes, my name does sound a bit like 'Fayday', 'just a bit shorter', as CG correctly said. Btw don't worry, I'm not going to get angry if you call me 'FayDay', 'Féd' or 'FeeDee'. I simply won't tolerate the use of 'Frede' and 'Feddy', alright? ;)
However, my whole name, written down in Eglish, sounds a bit like 'Fé-duh-ree-ca'.

A yellow jersey would be the perfect kit for one of the Schleck brothers this July. We just need to decide which brother it'd suit
    better ;)

@ Cougar Girl: you're right, that mail did come from Trek and not from Leopard True Racing! Uhm, we need to find out whether the two things are linked or not. Btw I don't think the riders will pay a lot of attention to this mail.
When Trek will tell journalists that they have to kneel down in front of the riders if they want to interview them, well, at that point they may start paying attention to they sponsor's 'grandeur'.

Team Sky's website is great, last year I spent a whole evening looking at the riders' videos just to listen to their names' correct pronounciation :P
They should definitely make some vids like that also at Team LeOpArD-TreK holdet. Or, at least, they should make one with Jakob Fuglsang saying his name and his surname in a very slow, clear and loud way.

The team website is pretty boring, that's true, and I hope the definitive version will be better. Btw I hadn't noticed that it has the same colours as Sky's, thank you for making me notice it! Let's just hope that LT's results will be better than the ones that Sky got last year...

Oh, I think that Brian will agree with sending your kiss to mr. ARS (who is he, I wonder? ;). After all, Nygaard already gets a lock of hair from each of us, so he should be completely happy about it.

@ Mar: great post Mar! Stamsnijder, I'll never learn to pronounce that name! 'It's Boom, not Bum, it's not exploding!' LOL!! Thank you very much for recording that tape, now I can say 'Gesink' and 'Van Den Broeck' in the corret way (well, at least I can try to)! Hurrah for Mar!! Yay!

  14. Ops,I've just seen your comment Coug!
Interesting question about LT's logo (I'm fed up of writing Leopard Trek every time, LT is faster and is even written in caps, so no one can complain about it). I don't know why, but to me it looks like a disgusted face (shall I make a quick call to a psychiatric hospital after saying this?). Other interpretations?

Sometimes Andy's tweets can be very difficult to interpretate. I think that the last one meant: "Having massage with Joshi Aran (LT's soigneur) while listening to Kings of Leon's song 'Sex on fire' ,uh now (the cd has changed to) 'Use Somebody'".
I also had to read that tweet twice the first time I saw it because the 'sex on fire' part had left me a bit confused :P

    RispondiElimina
  15. I think you did a great job Mar, in your voice post! :) I don't think we should take the Leopards too seriously.. I mean, look at this video on FB!! http://www.facebook.com/leopardtrek

I love all the videos from the TDU.. not only does it mean that the cycling season has finally started.. it also makes me long for better weather (aka summer) ;)

    RispondiElimina
  16. I just watched their video on Facebook - hilarious! :D

I think we should blame Trek for the whole 'Team LeOpArd-treK-holdet' business and just use LT.

@Fede: Well, actually "fed" = "fat", with the "e" it's in plural but luckily it's not said in the same way so it should be fine :P

The O in LT makes me think of a very sad cyclops (is that right, I'm not sure what you call them in English?) - I might be the one needing a psychiatrist :P

@Mar: Nice post :D Happy to know that I was right about Broeck and the journalist was wrong! xD But I don't think I can make those g's come out of my mouth!

Andy's tweets are always slightly weird but I had to read that one a couple of times too before it made sense. My eyes just sort of jumped to the 'sex on fire' part and ignored everything else (What? Yes, I know, but come on, I'm the one who's still sniggering at Tour Down Under! :P)

    RispondiElimina
  17. That LT video is hilarious :) I hadn't become a Leopard Trek Facebook fan yet when I first saw it, but then Andy and Frank made me become a fan in less than 5 seconds time.
'Become a friend of... Noooo!' Poor absent-minded boy!

Summer, 5 months and we come (although I don't know if I can resist so long)!

It's so nice to hear about cycling races again! And it was also nice today to see Elia Viviani getting another good result and Ballan finally coming back in a race Top 10!

PS: Talking about Ballan and pronounciation: the stress is on the second 'a'.
PS 2: hey, they didn't write LT in caps in the Facebook group!!!

    RispondiElimina
  18. @ Susanne: I understand what you mean when you talk about the sad cyclop and I agree with you about it. Shall we ask for a common room at the hospital? XD

I don't think I'll ever be able to say Stamsnijder and Kruijswijk correctly. If you ever read about my friends Stammy and Kru in one of my posts, just know that I'll be referring to those two riders.

I'm afraid that the 'sex on fire' part of that Tweet was an 'eye-catcher' for every single fangirl of the world!

  21. @ Susanne: I think that the use of the LT abbreviation should make everyone happy. We all know that it means Leopard Trek, and it's even written in caps. They can't complain about it!

@ Barbara: he must have been happy with the result then! I think that everyone of us reacted to that tweet immediately ;)

    RispondiElimina
  22. Right, LT it is, phew, that's a relief, much quicker to type. In England that stands for London Transport, you know, red buses and the Tube (underground). But I'm happy to reallocate it to mean leopard-trek. (ha ha, no capitals at all, there! I'm so naughty!)

Susanne & Fede, I know what you mean about a sad cyclops, and yes, that is the word, mythical person with one eye in the middle of the forehead, and you have one cyclops, two - er, I have out-clevered myself here, hang on, oh yes, two cyclopes. If you are feeling strong, and have not recently eaten, check out this: http://www.smh.com.au/articles/2006/01/11/1136956230663.html.

I just keep seeing the "O" part as a huge nose... with a miserable non-smile underneath it.

If any of us get to meet any of Team LT (hee hee) or find their team bus, we could take a felt pen and draw eyes above the big nose.....

  23. Oh but the car is georgous...

Scroll down to post number 916, and click on the pic to enlarge it.

OK, I have been slightly misled by the red tape around the car, it's not quite so funky without the red..

... which supports our suggestion that they need a bright red stripe, say, underneath the blue one: same width: with the phrase "Fangirls we love you" in it.

    In English? In Luxemburgisch?

  24. Thank you so much for the voice post Mar. Some names still don't come out of my mouth right, but now at least I know how it's supposed to sound.

I thought the mail from Trek was a joke, especially after seeing the Facebook welcome vid.

    RispondiElimina
  25. Coug! I was not feeling strong and I had just eaten and I feel really, really sick now (OK, you warned us but I couldn't resist.) That was horrible and I will surely have nightmares about it tonight.

The word 'cyclops' confused me because of the 's' - why would there be an 's'? It's the same word in Danish only no 's'. OK, whatevs, moving on: I actually think the 'o' is kind of cute (can an 'o' be cute? I really do need that psychiatrist...)

I like the car too but it would definitely be better with the red stripe. After watching highlights from stage 1 and 2 of Tour Down Under (hi, hi!) I've realised that almost every single kit looks the same from the helicopter shots but I'm training my eye to follow the cyclops-o on the back of LT's jerseys and it's working.
I think "Fangirls we love you" should be in Luxembourgish. Although, then no one else will be able to read it...

    RispondiElimina
  26. @ CG: LT means 'London transport'?!? Oh, that's great! I loooove London!!!

Talking about leopards, this morning I went shopping and I saw a bathrobe with a leopard print on. Unfortunately (or shall I say luckily?) my mother stopped me before I could buy it.

I know that I'm a horrible person and that this fact will disgust you all, but after seeing that picture I actually started to laugh... I mean, that poor kitten looks like one of the characters of 'Monsters & Co.' (come on, Monsters & Co., don't tell me you've never heard of it!) and I hadn't read about the fact that, apparently, that picture is true, so I couldn't hold back a laugh. How horrible of me!

Oh, drawing eyes on the big nose (or a nose under the big eye, it depends from the point of view) on TL's bus would be great. What if I decided to draw it on one of the riders' kit?

I must say that I don't like the team car too much.I would have been happier if they had chosen a nice, comfortable Skoda (which, by chance, could become my car in some months time...).

The 'We love Fangirls!' sentence should be written in every language spoken in the team, and that would include English, Luxembourgish, Italian, Portuguese, Danish, Dutch, German and more.
After all, if Volkswagen's motto is 'Wir lieben Autos', why can't TL's motto be 'Wir lieben Fangirls?'

PS: Coug, did you receive a mail from me? (I ask you because I've had some problems with my mail lately, so I'm not sure that you received it).

@ Cristin: the brothers look so cute and open in their vid, it's strange that Trek sent those mail while LT guys are trying their best to look approachable by journalists and supporters...

Just for curiosity: are you having problems with 'Stamsnijder' too? :P

@ Susanne: So in English it is cyclops, in Danish cyclop and in Italian ciclope! Nice!

I think I need to see that psychiatrist too: now that CG has made me thought about it, the 'O' reminds me of Pinocchio...

To my own, great joy, I managed to look the highlights of the first stage of TDU yesterday evening and I had the same problems as you with recognising the jerseys. Especially Sky and Garmin's kits look the same to me!

Talking about TDU, it was horrible to hear about all those crashes in the second stage. How can people leave gravel on the roads where a Pro Tour cycling race is supposed to arrive?

    RispondiElimina
  27. @Fede

I actually have no problems with Stamnijder. It comes out of my American mouth decent enough.
On a side note, I have a bathrobe with a leopard print on a red background. Not that I plan on ever showing it to someone.

    @ Susanne
I think the o is cute as well ;-)

    RispondiElimina
  28. Susanne, sorry! I did warn you! Although the newspaper said they had checked it and found it to be genuine, I'm not totally convinced, as kittens are not normally born with their eye(s) open, and this was supposed to be a one-day old kitten. Also, every kitten I've ever had (no, not me personally, silly!) has had blue eyes for the first week or two.

Anyway! Moving on... so jealous that most of you can watch TDU, we're not getting any coverage here in the UK. I have managed to find some sites that are streaming bits of it, but the quality is pretty bad...

I read a story of a Sky rider who couldn't tell the difference in the kits either - he said something like "I kept riding up behind Garmin riders, thinking they were my team!"

Team Schlux did say that they would appear with a temporary, plain, kit to start the season, didn't they? Perhaps they will stick to their word and GET A PROFESSIONAL KIT DESIGNER IN to make a better kit for later in the year. I was shouting there so that they would hear me.

    Schtam-nie-der?

Cristin, we want to see a photo of your bathrobe!

    Coug

    RispondiElimina
  29. Actually, Fede, cyclops is spelled kyklop in Danish but basically, it's the same word. And it's always funny when words from different languages are similar :D

I didn't read anything about the kitten-thingy. I was too horrified so I just closed the tab immediately (ha, ha!). You're right, Coug, kittens aren't born with their eyes open and when the eyes do open, they're blue. But somehow I don't think those things apply if the kitten only has one huge eye?

@ Fede: Yes, of course I know 'Monsters & Co.' (We call it 'Monsters, inc' in Denmark) and you're right, the kitten could easily have been in that :P

    RispondiElimina
  30. Oh, and I forgot: Cristin, I'm glad you're with me on the o :P

I have bedding with leopard print but I haven't used it for a long time - maybe I should start using it again?

    RispondiElimina
  31. Yay! Susanne, I have bedding with zebra print, and a black undersheet - "very blokey" my boyfriend tells me, but I like it! (Blokey meaning masculine, for all non-UK readers: as in "a bloke would like it" - whoops, keep forgetting this isn't my blog, sorry Fede!)

PS Fede, sorry, yes I did get your mail, I replied but forgot to press "send" so I've sent it now, oops!

    RispondiElimina
  32. Funny to read this commenting here. I almost feel like I need a psychiatrist too, I don't see anything with the O. Not even a cyclops :|

    @Cougar Girl, "Schtam-nie-der?" you forgot an S --> Schtam-schnie-der might work for you ;)

    RispondiElimina
  33. The more I think about it, the more this Stamsnijder thing reminds me of that making of Sram video where the riders keep mispronouncing it. xD

    RispondiElimina
  34. Schtam-schnye-derrr.. got it. There, that wasn't too difficult. What was the other one? Kruey-sweek? Hmmmm... bet that was wrong!

Ok I know I am going to regret this, I started playing with the 0| and came up with some suggestions.

Then I couldn't think of a way to get them on here... so, er, you'll have to go and look at them... er,,, (grits teeth and sucks air in between them) if you click on my "profile" logo on the left there, at the bottom you will find a link to Eisen Andy....

    Resisting Temptation .... just.

    RispondiElimina
  35. So, Coug, that's what you call "resisting temptation"? :P
I love the smileys, especially the worried one! "Is that a team mate up ahead? Or a Sky rider?" Ha, ha, ha!

    RispondiElimina
  36. @ Cristin: I have so many problems with Stamsnijder! And also with Kruijswijk, to say it all.
A bathrobe with a leopard print? That's great! I have nothing with a leopard print on, I need to buy something before of the beginning of the Classics! This afternoon I saw a woman with a fur coat and a hat with a leopard print on... Things with a leopard print on are everywhere, except in my house! Right now I wish the pink hippos on my slippers were leopards!

@ CG: I think you're right about the kitten. I've had some kittens too over the years and they all had blue eyes which, as soon as they were born, were closed.

Unfortunately TDU coverage here in Italy is between 10.30 and 11 pm and at that time this poor student should be sleeping because otherwise she won't be able to get up at 6.20 am on the following day (I'm a student who knows that rest is important and needs a lot of sleep pro night :P).

Poor Sky rider, I understand how he feels! If I was a rider I would surely have problems of that kind, especially because it's very easy to confuse me by using similar kits and things like that.

You're right about the kit, I think I've read that too! Perhaps they'll put the 'We love Fangirls!' stripe on the jerseys in a month time. That would make the kit much cooler and much easier to recognise in the peloton.

Don't worry to give us some information about English language. Personally, I find them very interesting and extremely useful!

@ Susanne: poor kitten with one eye! Unfortunately I can't see that picture without stopping to laugh, I know it's horrible but that's it. If the kitten really existed, however, I can't imagine its owner's surprise when they first saw it.

I have bedding with kittens on, is it alright anyway?

@ Mar: perhaps you're the only one here who doesn't actually need a psychiatrist ;)

    Schtam-schnie-der!!

    RispondiElimina
  37. @ Susanne: Oh! *huffs indignantly* Did I mention the "A" word, even once? Huh? (Well, except for the title, but I had to use something that you would all recognise... nearly called it Singing Cat!)

It's not a blog, it's just a way to share the pictures with you..... otherwise they would have been wasted... can't have that, we have to recycle everything these days.

Fede - pink hippos! Wow! Can we have a photo of them, please (*does puppy dog eyes and bats eyelashes*) (which means to flutter them very fast in an endearing, cute and irresistable manner. I am very good at it.) You've already seen my slipperbears, Itsy and Bitsy, they were admiring the Lux Socks on my former blog (*sniffs*), and they say they'd like to see what pink hippos look like. Puurrrllllleeeeeaase!!!

I'm sticking with Kruey-sweek, in the absence of anyone correcting me...

    Coug

    RispondiElimina
  38. TDU coverage in Denmark actually isn't bad, they're showing the highlights three times a day AND they'll show the last stage live (in the middle of the night obviously, but I'm very tempted to at least get up really early to watch some of it). But of course, the press is more or less ignoring LT and only concentrating on SaxoBlank. Come the Tour de France I will be ready to strangle every Danish sports journo in sight, I'm sure!

Yes, it's true that LT said that they would ride in a plain kit at first but that was before Trek became name sponsor. Maybe that has changed their plans?

Coug, I'm sorry, you're right, not once did you mention ARS (that is funny!) and I'm very proud of you!

@ Fede: Well, kittens, leopards - what's the difference, really? :P

And on to something completely different and irrelevant: I just saw the crown prince of Denmark on TV and he was wearing - wait for it - a Fugl-scarf! And I was just about to excitedly tell my mum when I realised she wouldn't have a clue so now I'm telling you guys!

    RispondiElimina
  39. @ Fede
Oh, don't even mention me Kruijswijk. I actually had to scroll back and double-check if I've even spelled it correctly.
The pink hippos sound cute. And cozy ;-)

    @ Coug
Maybe I would show you guys my bathrobe, but I don't have a camera or a cord to attach my phone to my laptop. :-(

    RispondiElimina
  40. Hey, 41 posts! Let's go for the record...

@ Cristin - what a feeble excuse! Come on, we want photos! (You don't have to be wearing it, I'm not a pervert or anything..)

If anyone can think of any additional O emoticons, do let me know... I'm on holiday now for a week (yay!) and I'll see you all when I get back.

    Bye!

    Coug

    RispondiElimina
  41. @ CG: I'll post a picture of the hippos as soon as you come back from your holiday :) I fell in love with them as soon as I saw them in that shoe shop, they were begging me to take them home with me so I had to buy them!

    Have a good holiday dear!!

@ Susanne: Eurosport broadcasts TDU live, but I can't stay up until 3 am to see it (my teachers always complain about how sleepy my classmates and I are, so I'm not sure it would be a good idea to fall asleep during a lesson after a late night spent watching cycling).
National tv instead broadcasts the race very late in the evening, when I'm too tired to watch it.

Patriotic journalists are everywhere, just like patriotic race organisers (--> ASO). Here in Italy they always talk about Italian teams and riders (Basso, Nibali, Basso, Riccò, Nibali,Pozzato; then they begin again: Basso, Nibali, Basso, Riccò, Nibali, Pozzato...) and I find it very annoying too. After Menchov's exclusion from the Tour, for example, la Gazzetta dedicated just one line to ASO's decision. If Menchov had been an Italian rider, they would have behaved in a veeery different way!

Hey, the Fugl-scarf is conquering the world, princes and kings included!! Jakob must be proud of it! :)

Sometimes it happens also to me to talk about cycling with people that have no clue of what I'm talking about.
The other day, for example, I started to tell my deskmate about Menchov's exclusion from the Tour. She listened to me very carefully for some minutes, let me yell at ASO for some time, but then she said: 'Listen but...Menchov... Who is he? I mean... Is his exclusion from the Tour such a big problem for you?' I was shocked. She doesn't even know who Menchov is,and there I was, trying to make her understand why I was so angry. Btw she was nice, she listened to me and tried to understand why I was so annoyed.
Unfortunately it seems that my classmates are immune to my attempts of spreading the cycling love all around, they don't care at all about it :(

@ Cristin: if I post a picture of the pink hippos, then you can post a pic your bathrobe too! Believe me, having pink hippos on your slippers is much worse than having a leopard print bathrobe... ;)

Kruijswijk, I always have to check the spelling of this name too! And I also have to remember that his name is Steven, and not Robert :P

    RispondiElimina
  42. @ Fede: Ha, ha! At least your classmate doesn't mind listening to your cycling talk. I don't think my friends even know who Andy is! (Yes, I know I've done a very poor job of spreading the cycling love) They always cast evil looks at me whenever I say anything cycling related so I've given up.

I'm not looking forward to the Tour when the commentators and journalists will be on Contador's side (if he's riding, that is) - I'm not sure my patience will last!

Btw, I completely forgot! Did you want me to find a video with the correct pronunciation of Breschel?

    RispondiElimina
  43. Spreading the cycling love amongst friends isn't that easy, it works better if you try to spread it in your own family. As a consequence of my efforts, for example, my mother has now become a big fan of Thomas Lovkvist, my grandmother often asks me how my boyfriend is doing at races (I did try to explain her that Chris Anker Sorensen doesn't even know me, but it didn't work!) and my cousin always pisses me off by making fun of Andy Schleck's nose.
Unfortunately it's more difficult to turn friends into cycling lovers :(

Ops, I hadn't considered that all the Danish journalists will be on Contador's side during the Tour. I wish you good luck with them!

If you can kindly find us a video with Breschel's correct pronounciation, I would really appreciate it. It would be useful for my 'pronounciation class' post, that I'll write as soon as I have time :)

    RispondiElimina
  44. Yes, you're right, family is easier. I've got my brother who's the reason I got into cycling in the first place but unfortunately he doesn't live at home any more. So when he's not around I usually settle with my mum - she says she's not interested in cycling but for someone not interested she sure enjoys listening to my yapping a lot!
Ha, ha at your grandmother thinking Chris Anker is your boyfriend! xD (Btw, he's updated his blog today :D)
My dad makes fun of Andy too and it's really annoying! (He makes fun of most things, but still!)

Here's the video with Matti: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CypDAWtD_Vc
His name is said in the beginning after around 3 seconds and again after 38 seconds. (And if you like looking at him, you can do that too :P)

    RispondiElimina
  45. Male members of fangirls' family seem to have at least one thing in common: they always make fun of Andy. Jealousy is such a bad thing!

Thank you very much for the Matti vid. He's got such nice eyes!
I'm working on the 'pronounciation class' post right now, it should be ready in a few days time (unfortunately I'm terribly busy with school this week).Btw, I was very happy to discover that my way of pronouncing 'Breschel' wasn't that wrong :)
